Ugur Sahin, the Turkish-German Scientist whose work on messenger RNA drugs led to the development of the world’s first COVID-19 vaccine to exceed 90% effectiveness in protecting people against coronavirus has revealed that life will return to the way it was before COVID-19 by next winter.
He projected that the vaccine would have circulated properly enough for things to begin to gradually return to the way they were before the advent of the pandemic which has killed over a million people in the world. The scientist and his wife, Ozlem Tureci, are the founders of the company BioNTech, a German biotechnology company that works on using immunotherapy to treat serious illnesses such as cancer and COVID-19.
The company in partnership with American pharmaceutical company, Pfizer manufactured the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine which, according to Pfizer CEO, Albert Bourla was effective 90% of the time in protecting participants of the vaccine trials against the coronavirus. The announcement which was made last week Monday is a major medical breakthrough and has been met with much joy.
Sahin said that if things go as they expect we will gradually be heading back to the good old days before the pandemic struck and by next winter, everything should be back to normal. While speaking to reporters on Sunday, the CEO explained that if vaccine distribution rates are as high as they expect, then COVID-19 figures being recorded in different parts of the world will be drastically reduced.
“I am very certain that things will soon be back to normal because different companies working on vaccines have been told to increase their supply, meaning a normal winter for us all next year,” the CEO said.
He explained that the plan is to distribute hundreds of millions of vials of the vaccine to different regions in the world before spring, and he expects that by that time there will be a change in the way people contract the infectious disease. He said that by summer the figures would have seen a drastic improvement and fewer people will be getting infected.
“What we need now is to ensure that a lot of people are vaccinated before next autumn or winter,” he added.
Sahin added that new preliminary results have shown that the vaccine is over 90% effective. He explained that it is clear now that effective vaccines have been produced, his included, and this shows that the COVID-19 pandemic is not invincible.
