President Donald Trump on Tuesday continued with his purge of officials who have refused to agree with his claims of election fraud in the just concluded presidential elections by firing Christopher Krebs, the former head of the Department of Homeland Security’s Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, NY Post reports.

The top cybersecurity official had repeatedly dismissed Trump’s claims about widespread voter fraud and irregularities in the 2020 presidential election. Trump announced his decision via Twitter. Ironically, the tweet was flagged down by Twitter for promoting false information shortly after it was posted.

Trump’s decision is coming on the heels of his refusal to concede defeat and recognize President-elect Joe Biden as the winner of the election. Trump campaign has since filed several lawsuits challenging the outcome of the election in crucial swing states, BuzzFeed writes.

Krebs is one of the administration’s officials who have publicly disagreed with the president that the election was fraught with irregularities. Using social media, he had pushed back claims of voter fraud. On the day of his sack, Krebs retweeted an election security expert who tweeted that claims of election manipulation to favor a particular candidate are baseless and without the much-needed evidence.

Krebs’s utterances did not go unnoticed, and President Trump was quick to offer a rebuttal.

“The recent statement by Chris Krebs on the security of the 2020 Election was highly inaccurate, in that massive improprieties and fraud – including dead people voting, Poll Watchers not allowed into polling locations, ‘glitches’ in the voting machines which changed votes from Trump to Biden, late voting, and many more,” Trump tweeted. “Therefore, effective immediately, Chris Krebs has been terminated as Director of the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency.”

In subsequent tweets, Trump gave his administration credits, in that foreign powers were unable to influence the elections while stating earlier that dead people voted in the election.

Again, election officials in key states have dismissed Trump’s claims that poll watchers weren’t allowed to access the polling locations. In fact, Trump’s campaign officials during court proceedings admitted to this fact. Also, there is no evidence to show that dead people voted.

In a report by Reuters last week, the news outlet disclosed that Krebs was expecting his ousting after being asked to take down a website his agency created to counteract false information regarding the election and his refusal to do so.

Krebs agency made a statement last week, declaring the elections to be the most secured in American history. There was no immediate statement from his agency, but Krebs tweeted his reaction in response to the president’s earlier termination of his appointment.

“Honored to serve,” his tweet read. “We did it right. Defend today, Secure tomorrow.”
