The incoming communications team of the administration of President-elect Joe Biden will be made up entirely of women. Biden confirmed this on Sunday when he announced their appointments. He said he was proud to announce that his White House communications team comprises women who can do the job superbly, CNN reports.
Biden said they were seasoned professionals and thorough-bred communicators who will be bringing their diverse world views to bear in their job. He noted that he had selected this team to build the nation and make it better.
Women will be playing highly critical roles in the administration of Biden since the president-elect was set to nominate Neera Tanden to head the Office of Management and Budget. Tanden will be making history as the first woman of color to head the highly influential federal agency.
Biden also named his Council of Economic Advisers. They comprise economists Cecilia Rouse, Jared Bernstein, and Heather Boushey. Rouse, an economist from Princeton University, would also be the first Black American to head the economic council. Janet Yellen was earlier nominated as Treasure Secretary.
White House’s new press secretary will be Jennifer Psaki. She is a highly referred communications expert within the Democratic circle. She was the communications director of the Obama White House.
However, Kate Bedingfield will be leading Biden’s new communications team. She will be serving as the White House communications director. This was the same role she held during the campaign, Washington Post writes.
Most of Biden’s recruits in the communications department played one influential role or the other in the Obama-Biden administration. Most of these veterans had worked with the former vice president, and they will be steering the ship as the incoming president tries to relate with the American public amidst the coronavirus pandemic.
All seven women have long worked in the Washington establishment and understand the terrain of their new roles.
Vice-President-elect Kamala Harris said in a statement that this present communication team has been chosen because the new administration wants to relate with the American people in an honest, clear, and transparent manner.
Karine Jean-Pierre will serve as principal deputy press secretary. Pili Tobar will become the deputy White House communications director.
Harris’s communication director will be Ashley Etienne. Her spokesperson will be Symone Sanders. Harris said this present crop of the best brains and very talented individuals were assembled to deal with a lot of challenges troubling America – from the coronavirus pandemic to climate change, economic crisis, and others.
The wife of the president-elect, Jill Biden, will have Elizabeth Alexander as her communications director.
