Google has announced the launch of RCS, which is set to replace SMS all over the world. The new function is embedded in the Google Messages app, which now comes with enriched features that users would love. Google said their new RCS messaging app is similar to iMessage and has all the top-notch features to compete with WhatsApp or Messenger.

Google has entered into collaborations with many mobile carriers in certain countries and regions of the world to provide chat functions in line with the open Rich Communication Service (RCS) standard in Messages. It has extended similar partnerships to some equipment manufacturers in the mobile industry. Therefore, RCS is now available in every country except China, Russia, and Iran.

Now, your messaging app would be for more than just receiving text-based messages. The new features allow users to send quality photos and videos just as they would use other free messaging apps. Users would know when their messages have been received and read. So, the new RCS function offers an exceptional way of chatting with friends and loved ones, Gizchina writes.

Google said it has been at the forefront of promoting the RCS chat function. The company said it aims to provide a modern way of messaging to everyone on Android. Users can obtain new features directly from Google or mobile carrier.

RCS is built to be more secured than SMS. Its end-to-end encryption would ensure that third-parties cannot read the content of your messages. Google has also released the beta program for the app. The company is currently gathering feedback from its global testing and would launch the final version next year.

The end-to-end encryption is available when the recipient at the other end has installed Google Message and enabled the chat function. To access the new features, it is recommended that you update your app or download from the Play Store and turn on the chat function.

Google is aware that it would take some time coming before everyone on the Android ecosystem switches to RCS. Notwithstanding, Google is vigorously promoting its app to gain widespread approval and acceptance.

While Google seeks to push its RCS Messaging app, there is a glitch that’s yet to be fixed within the app. This is the unavailability of end-to-end encryption for groups.

The Signal app has been touted as an alternative to the Google Message app because it offers end-to-end encryption for groups. Like iMessage, you should be able to see if your contacts are signal-enabled or use unsecured SMS.

According to experts, unless Google fixes its end-to-end encryption for groups, the current encryption mode is pointless.
