When it comes to hair loss and balding, there are hundreds of products on the market. And if we’re being honest, many of them are shams. There are, however, some very effective options. Is laser therapy one of them?

What is Low-Level Laser Therapy?

Also known as cold laser therapy, low-intensity light therapy, or soft laser therapy, low-level laser therapy (LLT) is a safe and highly effective hair regrowth treatment option. It utilizes light-emitting diodes (LEDs) to stimulate hair growth and reduce further hair loss.

The low-power nature of these LED “lasers” can stimulate blood flow without producing heat or causing pain. This results in enhanced cell functioning through a process known as photobiomodulation.

LLLT has long been used as a treatment for wound healing, pain relief, and clinic-based hair loss therapy. And thanks to industry-wide improvements, it’s now a practical option for at-home hair loss treatment.

“Until recently, this incredible technology was available only through expensive machines and procedures performed by physicians,” explains Kiierr, one of the leading providers of in-home LLLT solutions

At-home LLLT therapy often involves using a laser cap. Here’s how it works:

  • Skin tissue is stimulated. As mentioned, the lasers from the cap emit low light to the scalp. This stimulates blood flow within the scalp tissue. This transports essential nutrients and oxygen to hair follicles through the scalp, resulting in cellular regeneration in areas with thinning or balding.
  • Cell absorption occurs. As the light from the cap penetrates the skin, weak cells absorb the light. This causes the scalp to experience immediate rejuvenation, which paves the way for new hair growth.
  • Hair follicle cells are regenerated. As hair follicle cells are regenerated, dormant hairs transition from the telogen phase into the anagen phase. This is where growth occurs.

LLLT does not provide immediate or overnight results. It can take several weeks of treatment to notice results (and several months before significant progress is made). However, unlike other short-lived options, laser therapy provides healthy and lasting results.

The Benefits of LLLT

LLLT may not be for everyone, but when used properly, it provides numerous benefits. Here are some of the top ones:

1. Convenient Hair Regrowth

The most obvious benefit is hair regrowth. Whether you’re balding at the crown of the head, thinning on the sides, have a receding hairline (or some combination of all three), LLLT is one of the most natural ways to regrow hair. And unlike other products, it’s convenient.

With laser caps, you can perform treatments from the comfort of your own home (or anywhere else where you’re comfortable wearing a hat). Whether you’re cooking dinner, watching TV, or driving in the car, LLLT is a safe and effective option for busy lifestyles.

2. Look Younger

We all have different reasons for regrowing hair. But at the core, we each share a desire to look our best. When LLLT is used regularly and appropriately, it leaves you looking younger, healthier, and full of life. It’s the perfect anti-aging solution for health-conscious individuals who want to continue living their best lives.

When combined with other healthy practices, like regular exercise, proper nutrition, and smart skincare, LLLT can shave years off your appearance.

3. Increased Confidence

There are multiple studies that show a connection between hair loss and decreased confidence. In men, it’s shown to lower the quality of life and have a negative effect on interpersonal relationships. By regrowing hair, you may experience a boost in your confidence. This may directly impact your social life, relationships, and possibly even your career. (The same is true for women who use LLLT to restore thin hair.)

Safely Regrow Your Hair

With so many questionable hair growth products and therapies on the market, it’s nice to know there are safe and reliable options that work. LLLT would certainly fall into this latter category. Give it a try and you may be pleasantly surprised by how effective it is. Just remember to be patient and give it time. It can take up to seven months to see full results!
